Trying to Beat the Heat: Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel (video)

Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel 5% ABV

All the Gold Bond in the world couldn’t stop me from sweating yesterday so I pulled out the big guns, BEER! The temperature in Jersey reached 101 and before you southern folks start playing the worlds tiniest violin for me, humidity plus high temperatures is not the same as dry heat and high temperatures, so I have a whole bag of SHHHH right here for you. OK so I’ve been on a quest this summer to find the perfect dark lager, which I might have already found in Schneider Aventinus but I push forward in the name of exploration or that just might mean I have commitment issues :-/

So today’s exploration comes once again from Germany with Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel, its a Dark Munich Lager in the same style as Negra Modelo (something you’re probably familiar with). The problem I’ve been running into with these dark lagers is that they are all a bit one dimensional, they are mostly very malty brews that can be a little off putting after one or two beers. So I’ve been trying to find a balanced dark lager, something that gives me malts, hops, fruitiness and drinkablity(yes I know its not a real word but its better than saying quaffable). Does Ayinger Altbairisch do it for me? Watch the video above to find out and don’t forget to leave your comments below.

The Keg Tap Rating: B+

About Irving

I'm just a guy who has a passion for good beer. Over the past few years I've been making it a point to introduce my friends to good quality beer and now, all of you. There's a world beyond cold activated cans, clydesdales, green bottles and Mexican clear bottled beer, you just need to tap that keg. Stay thirsty but stay different.

Favorite beers include: La Fin Du Monde, Hennepin, La Trappe Isid’or and Founders KBS.
Favorite Style: Belgian Blonde Ales
