Odell St. Lupulin 6.5% ABV 46 IBUs
Bow before me and receive your refreshment faithful follower. St. Lupulin has shined down upon me and I am grateful. Odell has yet to disappoint me. Not only do they brew fantastic beer but they are right down the street from me, so hoping over to partake in their wonderful concoctions is easy. This was the case with their seasonal release of St. Lupulin, an extra pale ale coming in at 6.5% ABV and 46 IBU. In Fort Collins, the release of St. Lupulin is somewhat of a city wide holiday and all come to pay homage.
There is something about enjoying a clean, crisp, floral brew on a warm summer day. Upon the pour I got a beautiful clear golden color with a appropriate amount of carbonation that danced its way up to the top. The color of this beer is is absolutely beautiful. It is almost as if St. Lupulin is shining his light upon you from the glass.
The aroma of this beer is very floral which dances with citrus and sweetness notes. I got some musty earthy notes but they play second fiddle to the floral bouquet of aroma.
The taste….delicious. A very crisp and clean Pale. On the front I got a slight hop bite of grapefruit, lemon and orange but not overly hoppy…just enough to let you know they are there. There is a strong malt backbone there that finishes the beer and leaves a nice residual sweetness on the back. Overall a fantastic balance of hops and malt as a Pale should be.
My overall impression is that this beer lives up the hype. A wonderfully balanced Extra Pale Ale that gives you everything a quality Pale should. So next time you are looking for some enlightenment or just need a clean, refreshing beer, let St. Lupulin shine his light upon you.
