Samuel Adams Double Agent IPL 5% ABV, 43 IBU

To be honest with you I never thought of Samuel Adams (SA) as a micro brewery or even macro; perhaps somewhere in the middle. I haven’t had a beer from this label in a long time. I do like the music in their commercials though. I’ve always enjoyed good, bold and tasty suds. Most that fit that description happen not only to be ales, IPAs but more specifically American IPAs especially from the Northwest. I’m not referring to English ales as I recently returned from the UK and am brilliantly unimpressed with the room temperature poured ales. Anyway, this concoction from SA’s “hopology” is called an India Pale Lager and it was a love/love relationship to me real quick after drinking it.

Samuel Adams Double Agent IPL  I have to say right away is a must try. It’s not too heavy, it’s not too light and without seeing the bottle some people may not know its a lager. And since summer is on the horizon it being “non-heavy” makes it properly refreshing for hot temperatures. It pours like its stronger cousins, has a fluffy head and light amber color. The citrusy smell also helps describe it as an IPA impostor (that’s a good thing in this case). I was exceptionally amazed when I first tasted this beer. It’s an IPA tasting lager but not as strong. The finish, well, the finish is superb. Cheers!

About Juan J

Greetings from Portland, Oregon. My name is J. and I love to drink beer (I have the belly to prove it too!). I am the only West Coast blogger on this wonderful site. I am also by no means a pundit in the art of tasting and writing about good beer but just a regular dude who has grown to love craft and micro beer especially Oregon and West Coast beers and now I have the opportunity to blog about my likes and dislikes to anyone who wants to read my rants and raves. Portland is filled with good breweries and so is the rest of Oregon and the left coast. As I’ve grown older my taste preferences have also grown from boring and inexpensive domestics to tasty, calorie filled and 'spendy' micro adult beverages. I prefer India Pale Ales (IPAs) along with Amber Ales but any beer that makes my palate happy I'll bottoms up the son of a gun. Here’s one of my favorite quotes: “A fine beer may be judged with only one sip, but it’s better to be thoroughly sure.” Cheers! 04/19/12

At the moment my favorite brews are/come from:

Hood River, Oregon's Full Sail Brewery (IPA)
Escondido, California's Stone Brewery (IPA)
Eugene, Oregon's Ninkasi Brewery (TG IPA)
Honorable mention:
Lahaina, Maui’s Maui Brewing Co. (Hi.P.Hay IPA)
