Like a craft beer cartel leader, I often times employ Beer Mules to transport the goods.  The merchandise is packed in multiple layers of bubble wrap, carefully placed in a suitcase, and travels half way across the country to its final destination.  All thanks to my BeerMules!

Being a Michigan native and a strong supporter of the beer that hails from the High Five of America, it is an expectation that visiting family and friends bring some Michigan beer when they come to visit me in Colorado – especially if they want to sleep at my place.  The quintessential Michigan beer that they must bring is Bell’s Brewery Two Hearted Ale.

This is one of the beers that brought me to craft beer and always reminds me of late nights with friends and family, summer camping trips and, well… home. Two Hearted Ale is the prime example of all that is holy in the American IPA category.

The beer pours a slightly hazy dark orange/gold color with a fantastic level of carbonation that allows for a great lacing. The aroma is rich of citrus and floral notes with a slight detected sweetness.  Upon first sip, you will get a burst of citrus fruit, especially orange and grapefruit while being balanced by the pale and Vienna/Munich malt.  Two Hearted is a balanced IPA between hop flavor, bitterness (mostly centennial) and a sweet bready malt bill that accentuates one another.  This is a brew that comes in at 7% ABV but drinks easy and clean.

This beer has, and continues, to make waves in the craft beer world as one of the top beers in the country, and rightfully so. For the past 5 years, it has been ranked the number 2 beer in the country, right behind Pliny The Elder from Russian River Brewing.

So, if you have some friends and family in the Midwest, inform them that you have a highly sought after opportunity for them to serve as your personal Beer Mule. Their first assignment should be to transport some Bell’s Brewery Two Hearted Ale.  You will not be disappointed in the quality of this product… I promise.

  1. One of the best IPAs out there. Thankful that it’s always on my local shelves.
